Spirit, Frontier and Allegiant are U.S. ultra-low-cost carriers famous for wanting a nickel for everything they don’t charge a dime for—and they’re also among the very few U.S. carriers not offering WiFi.
If you’ve wondered why, Runway Girl explained last month in her always useful website. It’s because they want free WiFi! and by that they mean they want a WiFi product that makes money for them, but doesn’t require them to pony up for equipment and renovations. That’s Spirit’s take on it, at least. So far, no takers, but as Runway Girl explains, there are players trying to get into a market largely dominated by GoGo, so…who knows?
