Manchester’s airport has become an increasing popular destination for travelers to and from England who want to avoid the mega-hassle of Heathrow, and especially if they hope to be traveling to northern England or Scotland. It has increasingly become a gateway for international flights coming to England (including direct flights from the USA and Middle East). And it will only get better and, we suspect, much more popular.
The owners of the Manchester Airport, England’s third largest, will be investing a billion pounds over the next 10 years to improve their facility. This is being done, in part, to make it a more competitive destination to places like Heathrow.
And this expansion may serve to benefit all travelers leaving England. In a separate and slightly related story, Scottish airports will be cutting the much hated and expensive Air Passenger Duty (APD) by 50%, saving a family of four 142 £ every time it flies. No doubt this will increase air traffic and tourism to and from Scotland. To keep the airports in northern England competitive, this reduction in APD will hopefully be allowed at Manchester airport — and perhaps, with time, all of England! Wouldn’t that be nice?
