Amsterdam is famous for its canals and picture-postcard setting. You can spend days just wandering up and down and around the many canals and waterways admiring the beautiful tree-lined paths, the classic architecture of the buildings and soaking up the atmosphere in the many cafes, shops and museums to be found.
On a recent trip there we spent a day doing just that and took our time taking it all in. We were admiring the many houseboats moored along the banks and spotted this man and is cat enjoying the morning sun. His boat had a garden and was newly painted and well maintained. It looked like a tranquil place to have a home and a different way to live as compared to a conventional house or apartment. I was a bit envious and thought this could be something I would like to try one day.
One little tip about walking around the canals is watch out for those cyclists! There are literally thousands of them and they won’t look out for you. If you get in their way you will get run over. Some may ring their bells but most don’t and it’s almost a hazard. Enjoy and beware!
