Angry over salaries and what they believe is neglect of their industry, French air traffic controllers’ unions have announced a two-day strike for July 1 and 2. There are 4000 controllers in France.
Among the issues are complaints that workloads are too high, that government demands that the retirement age be changed from 57 to 59, and that promises of negotiations on these and other issues have not materialized.
The retirement age issue, with related pension issues, has left 700 of the controllers who are reaching the old retirement age unsure of their status.
A two-day strike by controllers in April cause cancellation of about 53% of flights; in the busy summer season the effect might be even greater.
