It’s the dream of many weary business travelers, and just a fantasy for those of us in steerage. Boeing has developed a concept for a lie-flat business class seat that would let you lie-flat the entire flight if you wanted to, including at take-off and landing. Business-class customers could get their (free) dinner and drinks at the airline’s lounge before the flight and immediately try to sleep once they get on the plane — eliminating the wait for push-back from the gate, taxiing and take-off.
Boeing has submitted a patent for this seat design, made possible through the use of airbags. Airbags are selectively inflated and deflated as the seat moves from upright to recline. Boeing believes the seat will be safer than the usual business class seat, some of which are already pretty spacious and fancy.
Hard to know when these dreams will become a flight reality, but I’m sure it will someday. More on this story from the Australian Business traveler at this link.
