July’s a month of festivals in France

Every country’s tourist bureau does its best to promote summer activities, but France seems to have a headstart on the pack this month, with everything from fields of lavender to jazz and film festivals, and of course fireworks and more for Bastille Day, July 14.

From TheLocal.fr, here’s a sampler; there’s MORE where it came from! And they have links for more information on individual events.

Lavender in Provence, all of July and August. Of course, earlier you have a better chance of seeing fields of purple.

Arts at the Festival d’Avignon, July 2-26, with 50 shows, 300 performances and more.

If you’re looking for a rock festival, you’d better hurry: Eurockeennes de Belfort is on from today to Sunday; Sting is a featured performer this year

Can’t forget the Tour de France! July 4-26, on roads all over, ending in Paris on the 26th

Europe’s oldest Jazz Festival, July 10-19 in Juan les Pins on the Riviera

Paris Plages, July 20 to August 18th turns roadways along the Seine and the Bassin de la Villette into temporary beaches.

And, of course, you can’t leave out Bastille Day fireworks and parades, at the Eiffel
Tower and everywhere!
