Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, July 11, 2015: Dogwood, Saguenay Fjord

Saguenay Fjord, Dogwood

I am not a botanist, but do enjoy many of the plants I come across in my wanderings.  Dogwood is not a rare plant and typically has these four petaled (often white) flowers.  What is a little uncommon is that plants in this family are both flowering bushes (several meters tall, which you can commonly see in California’s Sierra Nevada  National Parks) and a low growing plant barely above the ground.

While hiking through Saguenay Fjord National Park in Quebec, I came across this rather pretty grouping of low growing Dogwood that I thought I would share with you this fine Saturday.

Now get out there and go find some on your own hike!

I love dogwoods and living in Texas — at least in my neck of the woods — I don’t see them very often. Your photos are so beautiful!
