Replica of Lafayette’s ship arrives in Boston

A full-scale replica of Lafayette’s frigate, Hermione, has arrived in Boston Harbor to celebrate Lafayette’s 1780 arrival to inform George Washington that France had agreed to support the American Revolution.

The replica, 17 years in the building at Rochefort, France, where the original ship was built, has been visiting cities on the U.S. East Coast, most recently New York. The ship was built entirely with the tools and materials of the original; the sails were hand-stitched by a single sailmaker.

For more information on the project, visit the Hermione’s website, Hermione 2015.
