I was sitting in a lawn chair with camera in hand when I spotted this Woodpecker going back and forth from this tree to a stand of fir trees. It would load up on the wasps and black jackets that were attracted to the sap on this tree and then head over to the fir trees and chow down or perhaps feed some young. Each time it went to the fir trees, I would move my chair closer and closer to where it was feeding until I was only about 8 feet away. I waited patiently (while wondering if I was going to get stung) until I got this shot and a few more.
Absolutely perfect. I appreciate too how you described how you continued to get closer to the bird in order to take this magnificent photograph. Thank you for sharing such an exceptional photo!
