United Airlines, which has been plagued by computer glitches over the past few years, some of which have led to disruptions of flight schedules, has given two computer hackers a million MileagePlus miles each for helping find security glitches in United’s websites.
United had offered the bonuses in May for help in finding and closing problems. Bug-bounty programs have existed before, but this was a first for an airline. The awards are the equivalent of about 40 round-trip U.S. round-trip flights in economy. A number of others got smaller awards.
And the problems that were found…and presumably fixed? United is wisely staying mum on that…
And then United’s systems crashed last week.
