In April, when we visited Brooklyn’s Grand Army Plaza Greenmarket, the focus was split between the vestiges of winter (root vegetables, cider, meats and cheeses) and the harbingers of spring (bedding plants, flowers, and hothouse tomatoes).
Now it’s August, and we return for another look, with Jersey field-grown tomatoes, stone-fruit, berries and beans in the mix. We’ve been living on this bounty, especially the tomatoes and the beans—amazing how many things you can do with them!
And speaking of which, the student chefs from CampusNYC below, were offering demonstrations and recipes at the market. CampusNYC is a culinary arts summer program for teenagers, with students from all over the world. Students learn in a professional kitchen with chefs, and prepare meals and recipes daily. At the Greenmarket, they looked highly-skilled and motivated!
