Ready for limits? Germans say maybe… Photo: Jochem Teufel / Wikimedia
Germany has no overall speed limit, and is famous for allowing extremely high speeds on its Autobahn system. A recent poll of German drivers, however, indicated that a majority favor having some limit for the Autobahns, but they favored limits higher than most other countries.
A poll conducted by YouGov registered 56% support for a limit of 150 km/h, or just under 94 mph. When asked about 130 km/h, the standard in France, or 100 km/h, or the British 70 mph (112 km/h), support dropped rapidly; only 11% favored the British limit.
Supporters believe lower speeds would reduce Autobahn death tolls. There is already a “suggested” 130 km/h standard, but it is not mandatory. Police can issue tickets when they feel the speed is too great for the circumstances. For more information from TheLocal.de, click HERE.
