It is said that “the sound of leather on willow” is quintessentially an English sound. Of course “leather on willow” being the sound of the leather cricket ball striking the batsman’s willow bat. Here, on a lazy Sunday afternoon, under the gentle sunshine, is our local cricket team battling with their opponents for the privilege of the local area cricket cup. Doubtless high on their priority list at this precise moment is “when will there be a tea break for some cucumber sandwiches and a nice cup of tea?”
