Gumbo’s Pic of the Day, November 6, 2015: The door knocker in Tallinn

Possibly only second to my attraction to take photographs of interesting doors, is another which never allows me to pass by fascinating door knockers – the older the better!! This one was spotted in the historic centre of old Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, one of the northern European Baltic States, which retains beautiful old city walls, a cobble stoned Old Town which is home to cafes and shops. Tallinn, through chance of history, probably retains the most complete and original medieval city centre of any European country.

January 15, 2016: Stonehenge Summer Solstice

The sign of times soon to come! This was my first summer solstice sunrise at Stonehenge in England and I love the picture because it heralds the warm sunny days that are yet to come (please!) after the dark days of winter. The solstice sun-rises are the only occasions these days when the public are allowed to be within touching distance of the old stones that comprise ‘the Henge’.
