There’s always someone to find a silver lining in dark clouds, and this time around it’s the travel writers of the Telegraph (UK) who are telling Britons that holidays in Europe and Turkey will be bargains next year because of uncertain times.
Nick Trend, in an article posted Nov. 26, points to two factors in particular: Americans made nervous by the Paris attacks and State Department travel warnings, and Russia’s ban on “tourist relations” with Turkey.
While the State Department warnings of possible attacks on Americans expire in February, he expects them to generally dampen American enthusiasm for Europe, even though Americans are a small fraction of visitors. And, he points out, they are often the highest spenders.
For Turkey, the loss of Russian business is significant; Russians have been the biggest and fastest growing segment in the Turkish market, and there are expected to be lots of discounts to lure replacement travelers.
