Architects and bakers team up for gingerbread competition

An annual gingerbread-house competition in Sweden has taken on a new twist as its sponsor, ArkDes, an architecture and design center, challenged the bakers to find solutions to Stockholm’s growing housing crisis.

With average waits for public or supported housing in the capital up to 8 years, the need for new construction is clear, and the ideas submitted ranged from high-rises such as those above mixed with low-rise to UFO-like structures.

Gingerbread houses are a Christmas tradition, and the entrants included actual architects, children, families and school classes. A total of 82 houses made it to the final display. To see and read more from TheLocal.se, click HERE.
