Denmark is getting ready to revise its taxi regulations, aiming to make the rules more rider-friendly and less controlled by the industry itself, but it is not planning to legalize Uber or similar apps that compete with licensed taxis.
Uber began operating in Denmark in November 2014, and was immediately reported to police by the Danish Transit Authority. Drivers have been receiving tickets, but the status of enforcement is not clear.
Danish politicians don’t want to legalize Uber, complaining that “drivers are driving without the necessary taxi licenses and not paying tax on their earnings,” and feel that revising taxi regulations will make taxis a more inviting option for riders, and thereby removing Uber’s market appeal.
