Attention in the Terminal! Please claim your Boeing 747s.

It’s not a story you hear very often, but apparently someone has abandoned their 747s at the Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).  Not just one, but three of them — sitting there on the tarmac.

Airport authorities have placed an ad in a local newspaper seeking the unknown owner of three Boeing 747-200Fs (2 passenger and 1 cargo planes).  The planes could be sold or destroyed if they fail to be claimed within 14 days, and the revenue so generated could be used to recover fees owed by the owner including the parking and landing of these aircraft.

The three aircraft once belonged to Air Atlanta Icelandic, according to their codes.  But they were sold by the Icelandic firm in 2008 and have remained parked at KLIA for more than a year.  The current owner is “International”, not Malaysia, but has not been further identified.  So if you are that mysterious owner, better claim your planes or lose them.

This is not the first instance of unclaimed aircraft at KLIA. The airport has seen several other abandoned planes, mostly smaller aircraft, in the last 10 years.  KLIA is the airport from where Malaysia Airlines flight MH370 took off before it went missing in March 2014.

Update from The Telegraph (UK)

“An air cargo firm has claimed ownership of three Boeing 747s left at Kuala Lumpur International Airport for more than a year.

“Airport authorities placed an advert in newspapers earlier this week calling for the owner of the aircraft to come forward.

“But Swift Air Cargo, a Malaysian firm, says it has been trying to retrieve the aircraft for months – but authorities dispute its paperwork.”
