I enjoy birds of all types, especially birds of prey, parrots, and am a huge fan of hummingbirds. Small, delicate, incredibly fast and beautiful, they’re really interesting to watch (before they disappear with the speed of a bullet).
I especially liked the bright iridescent colors of this bird which I spotted near Tucson. I was told it was a Broad-billed Hummingbird. These birds are small, 3-1/2 to 4 inch long, with a red, black tipped bill as a distinguishing feature. The male is metallic green as seen above, with a glossy blue-black tail and dark underside. This bird is generally considered a Mexican species, but its range extends into Southern Arizona, Southwestern New Mexico and Western Texas. Rare to have one pose long enough to actually be able to take some photos of it.
Nice shot. I photographed one also this week in Mexico City.
I love hummingbirds too! I am so impressed with your photo!! I never seem to be able to photograph them without a feeder nearby. Thank you for sharing this beautiful bird!!
