Near the end of my visit to the Museum of Modern Art’s exhibit of sculpture by Pablo Picasso, my eye was drawn past the sculpture, and into the city beyond.
The sheer curtain hanging at the wi
ndow softened the lines of the clustered buildings, making them feel almost a conscious backdrop to the sculpture, a model by Picasso for the building of the 50-foot monument in Daley Plaza, Chicago.

I should have mentioned: the special exhibition at MOMA is on until Feb. 7th, and includes very many pieces, from his earliest experiments with sculpture to nearly the end of his life. It’s a well-curated exhibit that keeps in mind the parallels in his changing work in both two and three dimensions.
