The Cousteau Society says the iconic ship, the Calypso, will sail again in a few months. It had an accident in 1996 and sank in Singapore.
Millions of people watched the documentary series, Undersea World of Jacques Cousteau, in the 60’s and 70’s. Cousteau’s ship, Calypso, became a household name.
The Calypso was at shipbuilding yard in Brittany in France for repairs in 2007 but a dispute over payment resulted in Equipe Coustea being ordered by the court to pay the shipyard 300,000 euros in repair costs by March of last year. It raised the money through public contributions.
