The Mayor of New York City, Bill de Blasio, announced the city will implement technology by the end of 2016 to allow New Yorkers to pay for the city’s 85,000 metered parking spaces by using a smartphone app. Users will be able also add more time to the parking spot within the app, as well as receive a refund if they drive away early.
The city of Boston started a similar system and there are 12,000 transactions on the app a day.
