A small Austrian town, tired of having its roadsides used as a litter dump by passing cars, has planted huge arrows where litter fell to shame the litterers.
Kirchham, in Upper Austria, has had it with cans, fast food wrappers, cigarettes and more tossed into farmers’ fields, where aside from being unsightly, they can injure livestock and pollute the groundwater.
The 300 yellow arrows, each about a meter high, were stuck into the ground at the spots where rubbish was cleared from the roadside. The youth branch of the local fire auxiliary will collect the arrows next month, and then monitor to see if they had an effect on driver habits.
