One of the most popular day trip destinations from Reykjavik, Iceland, is to Thingvellir National Park. The park has great historic significance to the Icelandic people as it’s where their ancestors gathered to form the country’s first government about a millennium ago. Beyond this, Thingvellir is also one of Iceland’s few UNESCO World Heritage sites because it is a rift valley — and you can see dramatic evidence of this by the cracking and moving apart of the hardened lava flows.
While hiking around the park with my younger brother during my first visit to Iceland, we got drenched by a cloudburst. But when the clouds clear and the sun emerged, we were treated to a most magnificent and vibrant rainbow!
Exactly my experience with Icelandic weather too.
So peaceful, serene and beautiful!! Thank you for sharing!
