Every port city has a fish market, but sometimes the most interesting are not the mass markets, but the dockside markets that sell right off the boat. In some cities, they’ve disappeared, but in Marseille, the small-boat fishermen still sell at stalls at the head of the port every day from 8 am to 1 pm.
The customers are a mix of locals, tourists and buyers for nearby restaurants. You’d be entitled to think, off these pictures, that there are some fairly ugly fish in the Mediterranean!
