Apr. 22, 2016: Christian Science Church, Boston

This is late afternoon and I love how the last of the December sun is caught on the dome of the Christian Science Church in Boston. I didn’t go in this building but in fact happened upon it as I crossed the Christian Science Plaza in Back Bay to reach the Mary Baker Eddy Library where I wanted to view the Mapparium. The light on this clear crisp day made for some great photographs and I do love a domed building!

I have to say I loved Boston and prefer it over New York and I know that statement will enrage New Yorkers with all their city has to offer but what I loved about Boston was its laid back charm, the fact that it is very much a walkable city and very easy to navigate. I basically walked from Quincy Market to all corners, North to USS Constitution, west to Back Bay and Beacon Hill, south to Downtown and East to the Harbour.

Visiting in December meant that I got to see the classy Christmas door wreaths in cobbled Beacon Hill, Ice statues being prepared for new year, tall Christmas trees decked with lights outside the State Building and a seasonal showing of the Radio City show.

It doesn’t mean that I don’t like New York, it just means I need to go back and give it a second chance—but at the moment it’s one nil to Boston, you socked it to me, good and proper.

What a nice surprise to see the familiar dome of the “Mother Church” atop the Pics of the Day.  Akin to Mecca for Christian Scientists, I’m sure Boston was the first place far from home I was aware of in my childhood and I’ve yet to visit.  A good reminder, thanks, GT.
