Value Alliance unites 8 Asian low-cost carriers

In union there is strength, and in the new Value Alliance, there are eight Asian low-cost carriers planning to benefit from that by sharing booking across all their websites. Travelers on any of the websites will have access to flights and booking information on all.

The 8 are Vanilla Air, Scoot, Tiger Airways, Tiger Airways Australia, Nok, NokScoot, Cebu Pacific and Jeju Air. Their home countries include Japan, Singapore, Malaysia, Thailand, Australia and South Korea. Some are subsidiaries of larger carriers such as ANA, Virgin Australia and Singapore Airlines.

Although they will share booking and ticketing facilities, the alliance will not include codesharing or shared loyalty programs, since those involve serious regulatory approvals. The alliance is, in part, a response to two other mini-alliances built around AirAsia and Qantas’s Jetstar brand.

The carriers are hoping to take better advantage of booming travel in the area, but the Alliance may also bring more American and European fliers to their planes: The easier it is to find them and book them, the better their chances of being selected.
