Fourteen museums run by the City of Paris have created an online platform for their collections and are celebrating and publicizing their creation with a zany exhibit of classic paintings re-imagined by Instagrammers, like those above and the one below. The exhibit is in the Gare Saint-Lazare rail station until July 31.
The museums, which include art museums, historical museums, and the archaeological crypt at Notre Dame, formed Paris Musees in 2012, and cooperate on many projects, including ParisMuseesCollections.Paris.fr, a joint website that draws from all their collections.
Two current offers on the site are ‘themed tours’ of Paris in 1900, drawing on 49 works from 3 museums, and Living in Paris in the 18th Century, which includes 32 works from 4 museums. The 1900 tour draws heavily on the 2014 exhibition at the Petit Palais, which is one of the museums in the group.
