U.S. visitor arrivals in Copenhagen are up 27% for the first quarter of 2016, and local airport and tourism officials are crediting the jump to new, and low-cost ways for them to arrive.
In the past couple of years, Norwegian Air has added low-fare direct service from New York, Los Angeles, Boston, Orlando and Las Vegas, making Copenhagen a more attractive gateway even for those going elsewhere in Europe. SAS has also increased frequency from its U.S. cities. Add the many discount flights to the area by Ryanair, Easyjet, Wizz and others, and it’s easy to see why Denmark’s getting busy even though Scandinavia is among Europe’s high-price spots.
While some of the traffic moves on, enough stays to increase nights spent by travelers in Copenhagen by 20% over last year…and those who stay also spend on meals, tourist attractions and more.

It’s good news for travelers and for Denmark. It shows budget travelers do contribute too. I haven’t been to Denmark yet but I thought Sweden was very reasonable. Now Norway is pricey, but its so well worth seeing.
