Of course, the prices won’t be like that forever, but Iceland’s discount airline, WOW, is inaugurating its first West Coast service with $99 fares to Reykjavik, or $199 to continue on to its 23 European destinations. Those fares are “as low as,” but WOW’s regular fares are set to drum up low-fare business as well.
The airline’s California cities are Los Angeles (4x weekly) and San Francisco (5x). Wow will also offer a limited supply of tickets for its East Coast cities, Boston and Baltimore/Washington for $49 to Iceland and $199 to Europe.
The purple-themed airline has added three new A330-300s to its fleet to allow the expansion. The airline, in business since 1991, is the creation of Skuli Mogensen, sole owner and CEO, and a man who likes to be compared to Virgin’s Richard Branson. That’s him, above, in the picture.
