Nestle’s birthday party opens 2 museums

Nestle, the big Swiss-based food conglomerate, is celebrating its upcoming 150th birthday with a new museum about itself and a revamped museum devoted to food and human nutrition, an area in which Nestle has often been criticized.

The new museum, called Nest, and the revamped Alimentarium, are both in Nestle’s hometown, Vevey, on Lake Geneva. Nest is based on the original 1867 factory where the company’s first product, a baby food, was made. 

Alimentarium originally opened in 1985, but has been closed for a few months for its renovation. When it opens to the public Wednesday, it will include a new permanent exhibition, and a ‘Food Academy’ offering cooking classes for adults, children and teens. where members of the public can take cooking classes.

There is also an online digital research archive, an enhanced website, and online programs for school use. Vevey is near Lausanne.
