A team of amateur archaeologists who call themselves Rainbow Power have found a 10th century Viking gold hoard, the largest ever found in Denmark.
The find turned up in a field in Jutland, where the trio found seven bracelets from the early 900s, weighing a total of about 900 grams. Six are silver and the other gold. The group worked with metal detectors, and took less than 10 minutes to find the hoard.
Marie Aagaard Larsen, one of the team members, told the press that “We really felt like we had found the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow when we found the first bracelet, but when others then appeared it was almost unreal.”
The gold will be displayed at the local museum before being sent to Copenhagen for further study at the National Museum.
