Farnborough show: air enthusiast’s delight

Britain’s (and one of the world’s) biggest shows of new planes, classic planes, future planes and every kind of aviation-related products is coming up next week with the opening of the Farnborough Airshow.

The every-two-year (alternating with Paris) exhibit opens next Monday and runs through the weekend. The first days are mainly for the ‘insiders’ of the aviation industry and are usually accompanied by reports of big new sales deals.

But enthusiasts don’t need to wait for the public weekend; there’ll be plenty of planes in the air around the show for those who like to spot. And on the two public days, there will be 5-1/2 hours of flying displays each day including a few new models, plenty of classics and a host of aerobatic and precision-flying groups.

There will even be a chance to see China’s first commercial jet, the ARJ21-700. And, though details are not available, Boeing has promised something special to celebrate their 100th birthday.
