Starwood Hotels: your phone can be your key

Starwood is adding keyless entry for hotel rooms to its SPG app for more of its hotels, starting now.

The system, which allows guests to use their mobile phones to communicate with the door lock, has been available for two years, but limited to 160 hotelsin its Aloft, Element and W brands; now it will spread out on a rolling bases to Meridien, Westin, Sheraton and Four Points brands as well.

Using the app means not having to keep track of another keycard; it also allows guests and associates to have as many ‘keys’ as needed for a shared space or conference room.

For members of Starwood’s SPG loyalty program, it can also mean faster check-in. So far, 350,000 SPG members have registered for the Keyless feature of the SPG app.
