While these two pictures may not seem much related, my eye was caught by them together as I reviewed pictures from our visit to the Lyme Regis Museum, in, well, Lyme Regis, Dorset.
While the museum focuses on the area’s Jurassic heritage and the life of Mary Anning, one of the earliest scientific fossil collectors, it also highlights other local history and crafts, including the incredibly fine knitting—yes, that’s knitting, not lace—of the baby’s bonnet.
The bonnet photo was taken for my wife’s knitting circle (another circle!); the ammonite fossil is one of the largest known.
