At a time when numbers of airlines are restoring small (and not-too-costly) amenities such as snacks in coach and free entertainment, British Airways has pulled back the ‘arrival meal’ on a big chunk of its trans-Atlantic service.
Typically, economy passengers have gotten a full meal on the flight, and another smaller one, most often a sandwich or wrap, some cheese, etc. shortly before landing. Like the one above.
But now, BA has set an 8-1/2 hour mark for the second meal; you’ll still get it on flights between Britain and California or the farther reaches of the Southwest, but if you’re headed between Britain and an East Coast destination, or Chicago, you’ll be offered choices including “fun-sized” chocolate bars.
The airline, which had over $3 billion in profits last year, says it’s part of “continuous updates to our menu.”
Predictably, the cuts will not affect passengers in the premium classes at the front of the plane.

What an absolutely terrible idea.
British Airways has been off my list for years because of exorbitant fees, so not surprising and only serves to reinforce my decision.
I always purchase a sandwich and a drink before flying. Pack it in my carry on.
Those snack packs you get prior to your arrival are an awful excuse for a meal.
So is the tea and coffee. I love orange juice but I wont drink that awful pot of sugared water that passes as juice.
And that’s on US carriers too.
I’m pleased to see BA made a $3 billion profit last year. Lets hope this pushes the margin of profit up some more. As BA is the biggest customer for the Boeing 747 – 400 I thought you’d be pleased to see most of that money going stateside.
