Vienna has once again scored tops in Europe and second in the world on a liveability survey conducted by the Economist Intelligence Unit.
The survey, done for the British magazine The Economist, ranked Melbourne, Australia in the number one spot for the second year in a row. Besides Vienna, the only other European city in the top 10 was Hamburg, which rose to #10 as Sydney fell four places due to perceived “threats of terrorism.”
That issue figured significantly in the year’s rankings, which take into account factors such as stability, quality of healthcare, culture, environment, education and infrastructure. For probably obvious reasons, Paris had the biggest decline among European cities, dropping 3.7% and to #32.
Stability worldwide has taken a hit, sliding from 73.7% in 2012 to 71.3% now. Vienna’s stability score was high at 95%; the ranking for world’s least stable city, at 15%, went to Damascus, Syria.
Aside from Melbourne, Australia also placed Adelaide and Perth in the top 10. For North America, Canada is carrying the bucket with #3, #4 and #5 for Vancouver, Toronto and Calgary.
