TSA PreCheck, the program that allows “trusted travelers” to sign up and get through airport security faster has its first European participant, Lufthansa.
The program allows members to go through the lines without having to remove shoes and belts, and to leave their liquids and laptops in their bags.
Members register their “known traveler” numbers with the airlines they fly, and boarding passes are printed with the PreCheck indicator. Nearly all the sizable U.S. airlines, other than Spirit and Frontier, are participating, along with a few other North American carriers such as Aeromexico, Air Canada and Westjet.
Encouraging more travelers to sign up for PreCheck (which costs $85 for 5 years) or Global Entry (which includes PreCheck and costs $100 for 5 years) is one of TSA’s big hopes in speeding up airport clearance.
