Allegiant and JetBlue are expanding routes again, opening up more competition in several markets. JetBlue is going deeper on its Caribbean commitment, and Allegiant is adding more destinations for flights from San Juan.
Allegiant will fly San Juan to Cincinnati and Pittsburgh, adding to its first (and not starting until December) Puerto Rico route, Orlando-San Juan. It’s also adding more routes to St. Petersburg, flying from Austin and Portsmouth NH, as well as Austin to Pittsburgh and New Orleans to the Charlotte area.
JetBlue, which already flies to Aruba from New York and Boston, is adding a flight from Fort Lauderdale, a hub it’s been building up lately. With a growing number of flights into FLL, it will allow a range of Aruba connections. On the Miami-area to Aruba route, it’s competing head-to-head with American and Spirit. Other JetBlue destinations from FLL include Nashville, New Orleans, San Diego, Barbados and Quito, Ecuador…as well as service just starting to Santa Clara, Cuba.
