JetBlue is planning to bump its 140-a-day Boston flights up to 200, and the plan includes starting up flights to Atlanta, where JetBlue hasn’t gone since 2003. JetBlue has become the largest carrier at Boston Logan.
The Boston to Atlanta route, with 5 round-trips a day, starts March 30. The discount carrier will also add Atlanta service to its other hubs at JFK, Fort Lauderdale and Orlando, but dates haven’t been set. With Atlanta, JetBlue has non-stops from Boston to 63 cities.
Delta and Southwest are the #1 and #2 carriers at Atlanta, and JetBlue is aiming directly at them, saying it “would bring low fares and award-winning service (to) a city that is dominated by two of the Big Four airlines.”
Among other routes planned for Boston is more service to San Francisco, with its ‘Mint’ premium class that offers lie-flat seats. Mint has proven a popular offering for JetBlue on a number of trans-continental routes.
