A great machine, one of my favorite “muscle cars” spotted this past summer in my hometown of Calgary. In mid-1968 Shelby American developed a new and improved version of the 428 V8 engine (Cobra 428 Jet engine), an engine which performed well and proved reliable and which is the muscle for this beaut. All GT500 cars were produced at Ford plants.
The GT500 has a long fiberglass hood, custom grill, and five air scoops. Very different looking from the usual Mustang and, like all Shelby’s, highly sought after by collectors.
