Talk about die-hard photo-grabbers! They could have literally died hard, but dozens of tourists who were in Indonesia’s Mount Rinjani National Park last Tuesday when a volcano erupted refused to leave for safety because they wanted to keep taking pictures.
Mount Barujari, part of the park, erupted without warning, shooting lava and ash two kilometers into the sky. The ash cloud was big enough to delay flights to nearby Bali, and officials of the Disaster Mitigation Agency began quickly evacuating over 1000 tourists, more than 60% foreigners.
But, the agency reports, many refused to leave the mountain, and some even hid from officials so they could continue shooting. According to the agency, all tourists eventually made it safely down the mountain.
