Qantas and Airbnb have an industry first: Qantas loyalty program members can now earn Qantas Points when they book accommodations with Airbnb through Qantas’s website.
The Qantas Points, which can be used for airline awards, hotel and resort stays and merchandise, will now be earned when program members book an Airbnb stay through the Qantas website. For the launch period, only Australian customers can book, but it will be opened eventually to all. And it’s good for Airbnb listings anywhere.
Ironically, neither Qantas’s nor Airbnb’s website indicates whether the points can be used to pay for Airbnb bookings. Up to now, Airbnb’s only direct loyalty connection has been to allow payment with American Express Membership Reward Points.
And there’s a contest, too: Qantas will give a lucky traveler and three guests round-trip business class tickets from Australia to San Francisco, an Airbnb voucher for $5000 and a $4000 debit card for spending. To enter, simply be Australian and book an Airbnb by October 31…and have your name drawn.
