Rome’s Termini station gets Artisanal Food Market

Rome’s Termini central station opened an artisanal fresh food market last week, giving travelers passing through the station a bright new choice in food that puts to shame the usual packaged sandwiches and fast food. 

The 15-stall market is modeled on one that’s been operating in Florence since 2014, and has grown to over 3 million visitors this year. The Rome market spreads over 3 stories and 1900 square meters, and has space for 500 to eat if they don’t feel like takeaway.

Foods available include fresh fruits and vegetables, pastries, meat, pizza, gelato and more. There’s a mix of vendors, ranging from regional specialties to vegan-focused to outposts of Rome favorites. On the ground floor, there’s even a restaurant and wine bar run by Oliver Glowig, a Michelin-starred chef.

With this addition, and with extensive foodie resources in other stations around the world, including New York’s Grand Central and Washington’s Union Station, it’s starting to look like stations will be the destinations for more than travelers!
