14 Spanish secrets for savvy travelers

ome of the world’s best-known destinations, such as Venice and Barcelona are struggling with what may be an excess of success at the tourist trade, while other areas that offer great value and interest go nearly untouched.

The Local, which offers European news in English, has also offered a menu of Spanish sights and destinations that could do with more attention, ranging from historic cities, to small towns, coastal resorts and even the place that ancient Romans considered the end of the known world.

That’s Cape Finisterre, by the way, a rocky finger into the Atlantic, west of Santiago de Compostela. In medieval times, pilgrims to Compostela often finished their journeys by burning their old clothes and boots at Finisterre before heading home.
