€40,000: Paris parking spot, or house in Brittany?

Parking in Paris is never easy, and escaping it by buying a spot in a garage is only an easy answer if money’s no object, because spots in the ‘chic-er’ neighborhoods average €40,000, and even less fancy areas average €20,000.

TheLocal.fr has taken a look at real estate ads around the country, and shows that once you leave Paris, you can buy whole houses for the cost of a parking spot in the 4e, 7e 8e or 16e arrondissements, including this cottage in Brittany.

The cheaper parking areas include the 13e, 18e, 19e and 20e.

Part of the reason for the rising prices is the loss of 89,000 spots over the past few years, and increasingly restricted street parking opportunities.
