Yesterday I visited the sites of the carnage in Paris. Obviously it is all quite grim, but some of the tributes put a smile on my face. These restaurants and bars were places of joy and will be so again some day. Only in Paris?

My favorite of these three is the market on the Champs Elysees. I have a fond memory from 2012, when a vendor refused me a taste of the cheese she was offering because she saw I had just finished eating a sausage: She told me to return when my mouth was ‘clean.’
