The fiery annual festival of Las Fallas, celebrated in Valencia in honor of St Joseph as patron saint of carpenters has just made it onto UNESCO’s list of the world’s ‘intangible heritages,’ along with 15 others around the world.
Las Fallas in its present form goes back to the 18th century, and is celebrated in March. Hundreds of ‘ninota,’ satirical images of public figures, politicians and more in wood, paper and other materials are made and carried in daily parades around the city, accompanied by fireworks and dancing.
