Radio Garden lets you listen to the world

A new tool for travelers and armchair travelers debuted recently: Radio Garden, a website that lets you listen in on thousands of radio stations from all over the world.

The site, as seen above, gives you the world and lets you zoom in on any part of it; by clicking on one of the green dots, you get a list of stations there that can be played (as I write this, I’m listening to a music station in Sidi M’Hamed, Algeria).

Radio Garden has grown from a Netherlands Institute for Sound and Vision research project, and has grown to include streams of over 8000 stations.

“This was a big surprise for us,” says Jonathan Puckey, a member of the team that created the site. “We have a crisis meeting tomorrow! Since this morning I’ve had 350 emails from different stations that would really like to be on it. I had the same again the day before. Were going to spend a weekend adding as many new stations as we can.”

So, whether you want to listen to your home station while away, preview the places you’re headed to or just roam the world from your computer…click HERE for Radio Garden. For more details from The Guardian (UK) click HERE
