Santa Monica California: Where Gumbo Was (#198)

Four people figured out that Gumbo was enjoying the sun and sand in Santa Monica California. Congratulations to George G, PortMoresby, GarryGF and Dr. Fumblefinger for their correct guesses.

Santa Monica is one of the places I come back to when I am in the L.A. area. It is a little touristy, but I really enjoy the energy and people watching. You can spend the day on the beach and at the Santa Monica Pier, which has rides and restaurants. Then in the evening you can walk up to the 4th Street mall for some shopping and higher-end dining.

The Santa Monica pier also sits at the northern end of a long paved walking and bicycle path that takes you down to Venice Beach which ends four miles to the south.

I spent a lot of time in Santa Monica in the mid-1980s while doing my internship and residency at UCLA Medical Center in nearby Westwood.  Always cool on a hot day, always a nice place to walk around.  Brings back many good memories, thanks!
